Any type of contaminant, even dirt, will prevent the powder coating from adhering to the metal properly.  Professional powder coating companies typically use sandblasting or grit blasting methods to clean rims before powder coating them.

Sandblasting will remove any dirt, grease, or old paint from the rims so that they are clean, smooth, and ready for powder coating.

2. Professional Powder Coating Service Provider

Is powder coating rims good? Yes. Because you may renew your wheel without buying a new one. It is best to take your rims to a professional powder coating company to be powder coated rather than trying to do the job yourself.

A professional company has all of the necessary tools for the job, and they also have the experience to achieve a perfect finish.

A professional can powder coat your rims much more efficiently; you might have to make several practice attempts and waste a lot of powder coating before you are able to coat the rims.

When you take the rims to the powder coating company, make sure that they have experience in working with rims and have all the tools and supplies that are necessary for working with such a product.

The powder coating is available in a wide variety of colors, textures, and finishes that you can choose from.

3. Prevent Unwanted Parts to Be Coated

Before the powder coating can be applied, any areas that should not be coated must be removed or taped off.  Taping those areas will prevent them from being coated.

After the powder coating is applied to the rims, they must be cured in an oven.  The powder coating is sprayed on to the rims, and then placed in a 400° oven.

In the oven, the rims are baked, and the powder coating essentially melts on.  Since the coating melts, it can run a bit.  If it runs into the lug holes, the holes can become narrowed.

If the holes become too narrow, they can be reamed out a bit so that the lug nuts fit properly.

4. Choose Your Color

It is important that you are sure in your choice of color and finish before the powder coating process begins.  There are many colors and finishes to choose from, including metallic and textures.

Most companies have sample cards, just like paint chips, that you can look through to help you decide.  Once the powder coating has been applied and cured, it’s too late to change your mind.

If you don’t like the color or finish, you will have to start the whole process over again, which could get expensive.
